My Favorite Green Smoothie Recipes (Vitamix)
Adding Green Smoothies to your diet can seem overwhelming and nearly impossible, especially if you are not used to it - or have tried one or more and gagged each time. :)
I assure you, there are combinations that you can do. Just keep working with it to find what works for you.
Here is the "Formula" I use when creating Green Smoothies. Learning this formula will help you be more creative in making your own. You also won't be as limited by trying to follow a recipe only to realize you are missing ingredients.
Rachelle's Green Smoothie Recipe Formula
- LEAFY GREEN LETTUCE - spinach, kale (about 50-75% of the Vitamix full)
- LIQUIDS - citrus juices work well (orange juice, pineapple juice from your cans or use frozen pineapple and add water) (about 1/4-1/2 Vitamix full)
WATER - use filtered. Make up the difference as needed to save on juice used.
COCONUT WATER - find the brand and flavor you like; they have different tastes. This is a great way to add electrolytes.
- FROZEN FRUIT - can add mango/ pineapple/ strawberries/ blueberries (Caution: berries change the smoothie color to non-green.)
- *FRESH FRUIT - can add grapes or kiwi
APPLES - tart ones, like Granny Smith, work well
BANANAS - barely ripe (add more), if ripe (add less)
- *OMEGA 3 - chia seeds/ flax seeds/ omega 3 liquid (Be careful it's one you already like solo. I find hemp seeds turn the smoothie to a more nutty flavor.)
- *SuperGreens Powder - add any greens protein powder or detox powders
Tip: Make sure you have already established that you can tolerate their taste and texture before making this part of your smoothie routine. If you can hardly stand it, you will be less likely to make the entire smoothie. Try to find a Green Smoothie recipe you absolutely love and you will be more likely to drink it consistently. If you want to force those other powders down, just mix them with water or your juice separate and force just that down solo. ;)
*These are options, but highly encouraged.

Here are a few specific recipes we have concocted and enjoyed at our house (kids too). :)
"Mango Jungle" Green Smoothie Recipe
- Spinach - 4 handfuls (pack Vitamix Blender 75% full)
- Kale Leaf - remove rib (goal to increase amount of Kale)
- Orange Juice - about 10 oz - (we like Uncle Matt's Organic Orange Juice - the smoothie truly tastes different based on the orange juice flavor you use)
- Water - about 10oz (I just add some water to keep the smoothie thinner and save money on using so much orange juice as our liquid - LOL)
- Banana - 1/2-3/4 medium size - (Use barely ripe bananas The more ripe, the stronger it will be, so use less banana if any at all. A green smoothie lady I learned from taught that bananas were her family's secret to drinking so many green smoothies. However, for me, they have to be just the right ripeness or they overpower the taste and I don't like it. To each his own.)
- Mango - 1 C - we use frozen (so much easier)
- Chia Seed - 1/3 C (goal to increase to 1/2 c)
- Omega 3 Creme Delight - 2 T (I buy this through Melaleuca - it tastes like Mango yogurt - so good)
- Detox Mix - 1 tsp (includes Atlantic Dulse, Barley Grass, Spirulina - from Numami - bought off Amazon)

"Tropical Swamp" Green Smoothie
(I let my kids name these to describe them - this one tastes tropical but I guess looks swampy - LOL)
- Spinach
- Fruit - banana, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, pineapple (we cleaned out the getting old fruit in the fridge)
- Coconut Water & Orange Juice (up to 1/3 line in Vitamix)
- 1/2 C Chia Seeds
- Ice Cubes (3-4) - Tip: If the smoothie is tasting BLAH - add ice cubes - somehow making it colder seems to help. Just don't make it too thick - add more liquid to keep it thinner. :)
*OPTIONS: You could also add Kale, Green Powders, and Juice Plus Gummies if desired

Anti-Inflammation Green Smoothie
In short -- add 1 inch GINGER ROOT to SPINACH and some COCONUT WATER... (add lime to offset the ginger burn) not sure the measurements.
I will need to get back to refining this one to share. :) Send me a message if you are waiting for this.
To our health!
